The Italian Greyhound originated from the Mediterranean region, specifically Greece, Turkey, and other areas, around 500 BC during the time of the Pharaohs. It spread to southern Europe during the Middle Ages. Skeletons of this breed have been discovered in the ruins of Pompeii, and images of similar dogs have been found in Egyptian coffins.

Although the Italian Greyhound is a small breed of toy dog, it was originally bred as a hunting dog and is not as fragile as it may appear. Its small body and slender legs allow it to minimize air resistance and run quickly. The Italian Greyhound is one of the fastest dog breeds in the world, with a running speed of over 60 km/h. Its long neck, shiny coat, and straight, slender leg bones give it a graceful and elegant appearance. Its short, glossy coat is smooth to the touch, and its ears are tall and pointy, with drooping tips. Its tail is long and hangs low, and its head and nose are separated by large, expressive eyes. The breed comes in colors such as black-brown, spotted, and blue-brown, but not in any other color.

The Italian Greyhound ranks 46th in the world’s most obedient and intelligent dog breeds. It is energetic, smart, and very friendly, and loves its owner deeply. It can become a member of the family and get along well with humans and other pets. However, it still retains some of its wild instincts, so it is more suitable to be raised in a spacious environment.
